Favorite Kitchen Shops

Here, I want to keep an ongoing list of all our favorite Kitchen shops from around the country and yes, even around the world. If you are like me, you love just roaming around a good kitchen shop and knowing where these places are can enhance our travel experience & help us find the tools we want or need. Of course, you can always shop at KitchenBoy’s affiliate partners ;-) but I know how fun it can be to browse the products in person. Plus sometimes, you just need to see it and hold it in your hand before you buy.

Some rules:

  • I don’t want to include department stores (Macy’s, Bloomingdales, Harrods, etc). The reason being that while these large stores sell culinary items, they are not specialists in the culinary field.
  • I do allow Williams Sonoma, Sur La Table. Why? Because they are culinary specialists and do sell hard to find products. I won’t list every location of Williams Sonoma or Sur La Table, I will only do so when they are the best option for that city.
  • I do not want to list online only culinary retailers. Why? There are literally thousands out there and I don’t want to become a repository of online information.
  • Please do not submit fee based or limited access shops. If you need to submit a business license or fee to access the shop then it isn’t for our list here. I want only places where anyone can walk in and shop. It can be a shop for professionals but must also sell to everyday “Joe and Jane”.
  • When you provide the information please submit the city, state, country, shop name, physical address, web address if they have one, a reason you like it.

  • To submit a site just send me an email or leave a comment.

    Here is the list:

    La Cuisine
    323 Cameron Street
    Alexandria, Virginia 22314-3219
    Phone: 703-836-4435

    http://www.lacuisineus.com

It has been in business as a one owner, single location shop for 40 years. Located just south of Washington, DC in a charming, historic town, you can find a collection of the most classic tools for the kitchen. From their website, “Our goal has never been to sell trendy gadgets with dubious uses … nor has it ever been to settle for price over quality. Instead we sell products from the best manufacturers we can find in the world. We pay close attention to durability and design.” I have read many mission statements over the years, none have ever made more sense.

    The new additions:

    San Francisco, California

Culinaire – One Ferry Building Market Shop #35, If you go to San Francisco, you must go to the Ferry Building. It is a culinary geek heaven. This shop focuses on classic and rare culinary items. A real gem of a shop. http://www.culinairesf.com

Sur La Table – One Ferry Building Market Shop #37, While you are in the Ferry Building, stop by Sur La Table. Yes, a national chain but between Culinaire and Sur La Table, you get the combination of old and new. http://www.surlatable.com
