Will You Grill…Continued
Thanks to all your feedback, I must now add a couple things to the grilling post.
Let’s start with sliders. Sliders, for those who may not know, are mini-burgers. They began life in the now famous White Castle burger joints but were most recently made popular as appetizers in bars and restaurants. Now, they have made their way into the home culinary scene. The slider burgers are 2-2.5″ in diameter, typically 1/2″ thick and served on a mini-bun with various condiments. They are great buffet style treats for outdoor parties. You can buy the grill basket by itself or as part of a set which includes a patty press, bun cutter and the slider grill basket.
The other item which is hot, and in much discussion, is the salt slab. Quite simply, this is pink “Himalayan” salt, from Pakistan, cut into an 8″x12″x1.5″ slab. I know what you are thinking, “this is a grilling item?” Just like the grilling planks, you heat the slab over the fire and then cook your food right on top of it. It can be used in the oven, on the stove top, or grill. Instead of a smokey flavor, the food absorbs the salty mineral flavors. What foods would you cook? The most suitable foods are those which readily absorb flavors such as fish, shell fish, vegetables, eggs and thin meat cutlets. However, make sure you remove the skin from any seafood or thick skinned vegetables because they will prevent absorption. The longer the food is on the slab the more salt will be absorbed, so stick with quick cooking foods.
Speaking of grilling slabs, a recurring question with the wood grilling planks is “what happens if food sticks or remains on the plank?” Simple. Because the plank is wood, just turn it over and burn off any food remnants. Keep using both sides until the planks fall apart, at which point you can use pieces as charcoal or smoking chips.
One final item is this well made grilling tool set which folds in half for easier storage. The joints are solidly built and it takes a bit of force to fold them in half, so there is no worry about them accidentally folding during use. The handles are thick forged stainless steel with pakka wood grips (pakka wood is man made and not from an actual “pakka” tree).
If there are any other grill items you are curious about, just drop me an email and I will give you the 411.
